San Sebastian, Spain - attractions, pictures

San Sebastián is located on the shore of the Bay of Biscay, 20 km from the French border. This is the third largest city in the Basque Country - a little less than 200 thousand inhabitants.
The city is divided by the river Urumee, on both sides in the place of its confluence into the ocean - beaches and embankments. The sights of San Sebastian are concentrated on the left. They, in general, not so much, but the city itself is quite nice.

The main attraction of San Sebastian is Castle Castillo de la Mota on Mount Urgull. The construction of the fortifications began in the middle of the 12th century, then the fortress was constantly expanded and modernized, almost to the Napoleonic wars. Today's species of Castio de la Mota, mainly, the result of the reconstruction of the XVII century. In the beginning of the XX century the fortress began to be demolished for the sake of building the park, but was not completely demolished due to public protests. In 1950, the monument "Sacred Heart" was erected on the top of the mountain.
In general, climb uphill, mostly not for the sake of the fortress, but for the sake of the species that are opening from it.

The ascent to the castle begins with the La Concha beach, on the edge of which stands the impressive Renaissance building of the former casino, and now the City Hall and the public library. It was built during the heyday of fashion for sea holidays, as, in principle, most of the buildings in the city center, which this fashion has turned into a thriving resort.

In San Sebastian there was also a monastery (One! For Spanish cities it's just an anomaly, probably because places are too resort for killing flesh, and the city began to develop rather late - then they thought not about building monasteries, but about their destruction ). Now in the building of the former Dominican monastery there is an ethnographic museum.

It's very simple to get - besides the frequent buses, Pamplona and San Sebastian are connected by a railway line.
